Hyundai Motor Malaysia has launched the Stargazer, a 7-seater MPV built in Indonesia and designed for ASEAN markets. Three variants are offered, starting at RM99,800 and topping out at RM121,800 for the six-seater X.
Launched on 22 September 2026, the Stargazer gives Malaysian families a Korean-badged MPV that starts below RM100,000, a price point where the segment has long been dominated by Japanese and national models. The entry-level Style is RM99,800, the mid-range Prime is RM109,800, and the range-topping X is RM121,800.
All three use the same powertrain: a 1,497 cc four-cylinder Smartstream petrol engine producing 115 ps and 143.8 Nm, driving the front wheels through Hyundai’s Intelligent Variable Transmission, a CVT. The fuel tank holds 40 litres.
Three variants, two different cars
The Style and Prime seat seven. The X seats six, with separate second-row captain’s chairs, and gets its own bodywork: at 4,610 mm long, 1,820 mm wide and 1,740 mm tall, it is longer, wider and taller than the 4,575 mm x 1,780 mm Style and Prime. All three share a 2,780 mm wheelbase and 185 mm of ground clearance.
The gap between the Style and the two higher variants goes well beyond trim. The Style has two airbags and no driver-assistance systems, while the Prime and X have six airbags and a camera-and-radar ADAS suite. The Style also rides on 16-inch wheels with 205/55R16 tyres, against 17-inch wheels and 205/50R17 tyres on the Prime and X.
For buyers set on staying under RM100,000, the Style is the way in. But the RM10,000 step up to the Prime buys four more airbags and the safety systems, which is the more sensible buy for a family car. The Stargazer carries a 4-star ASEAN NCAP rating from 2022.
Built for ASEAN roads
The Stargazer uses a monocoque chassis with MacPherson struts at the front and a coupled torsion beam at the rear, with ventilated discs at both ends. The turning radius is 5.4 metres, and kerb weight is 1,306 kg for the Style and Prime, or 1,328 kg for the X.
Imported from Indonesia, the Stargazer was designed specifically for Southeast Asian markets, pairing unusual, futuristic styling with the practicality families want day to day. With prices from RM99,800, it gives buyers a genuine alternative in a part of the market where choices have been limited.
