First impression of The Jetour VT9

My impression about the 2025 Jetour VT9, priced in Malaysia for RM118,000, and I must say, it’s an impressive package. The design is sharp and modern, the cabin feels upmarket with generous tech and space, and the 2.0L turbocharged engine delivers smooth, responsive performance. For a new entrant in the segment, Jetour has done its homework — ride comfort and handling are surprisingly refined, and the car exudes a premium feel that belies its price tag.

Some issues with the fussy engagement of the reverse in its transmission and the glitches in the infotainment are I belove software issues that Jetour need to address.

That said, comparisons are inevitable. The newly facelifted Proton X70, particularly in its 1.8TGDi AWD Premium guise, still offers a better overall driving experience. It feels more planted on the road, with superior suspension tuning and NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) control. The X70’s ride quality edges ahead, making long journeys a more serene affair.

However, with Proton now pricing its Premium X70 variants close to RM130,000, it loses the clear value-for-money advantage it once held. This opens the door for models like the Jetour VT9 to capture attention. While I’d still personally pick the X70 for its ride dynamics, the VT9 is a commendable alternative — especially for buyers prioritizing value and features.
